This historic accessory was originally born in Great Britain at the end of the 19th Century, worn by British soldiers as a symbol of their belonging to a specific military regiment. The accessory’s widespread popularity can be traced back to 1919, when the Prince of Wales decided to wear a red and blue striped tie — representing the Grenadier Guards regiment — during an official visit to the United States. Overseas, the regimental tie then began to rapidly infiltrate the fashion scene, going on to become part of the Ivy League uniform and affirming itself as an icon of preppy style.
